Bonsiepe, Gui

biography

Gui Bonsiepe is a designer, researcher and teacher. During his studies in information design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm (1955 to 1959), he worked with Otl Aicher and Nick Roericht and admired his teacher Tomás Maldonado. In 1968, Gui Bonsiepe was hired in Chile as a consultant by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID). His mission in the country consisted of carrying out a policy of industrial development through design. Pinochet's coup d'état in 1973 forced him to flee. Since then, Gui Bonsiepe has lived in Argentina and Brazil and has never ceased to be involved in the countries of the "periphery", particularly in Latin America. He has become an international figure in the "Design for Need" movement.
