description

“ Woinic“ is a sculpture of a giant wild boar created by Ardennes sculptor Éric Sléziak between 1983 and 1993. “Le plus grand sanglier du monde” is a monumental work representing the emblem of the French department of the Ardennes. Installed on the Ardennes motorway service area, the sculpture is 8.5m high, 5m wide and 15m long, weighing 50 tonnes. Initially rotating 6 times an hour, the base was permanently sealed in 206 due to the uneven distribution of the sculpture's weight. Woinic has become a registered trademark of the Ardennes departmental council for its derivative products. According to Julien Lelièvre, this boar has become a veritable symbol, and is certainly the most talked-about motorway sculpture in France.
