description
The year 1920 marked the high point of the Dada movement in France and abroad. Philippe Soupault, Paul Éluard, Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes, Francis Picabia, Louis Aragon and André Breton took part in the festival held in the Salle Gavault in Paris on the afternoon of 26 May. They all wore tubes and funnels on their heads. There were theatre plays that had never been rehearsed or concerts that were impossible to perform. The public was outraged, and a large number of eggs were thrown to celebrate the slogan “Dada est le bonheur à la coque” (Dada is happiness in the shell). The poster for the event, designed by Tristan Tzara and Francis Picabia for the publisher Le Sans Pareil, was printed on both sides and measured 37×27 cm.
