van der Velden, Daniel

biography

Daniel van der Velden (1971–) is a Dutch graphic designer born in Rotterdam. He trained in design at the Willem de Kooning Academie. In 1996, he joined the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht and began working with designer Vinca Kruk on the visual identity of Sealand, a self-proclaimed micro-nation in the ocean off the east coast of Great Britain. Between 1998 and 2007 he worked in the studio with Maureen Mooren. Meanwhile, in 2003 he and Vinca Kruk founded the Metahaven collective, to which he devoted himself entirely from 2007 onwards. Their work takes the form of exhibitions, books and performances, and questions the political issues of the Internet. Daniel van der Velden currently teaches at Yale University and the Sandberg Institute.
