Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1942, Andreas Huyssen is Professor Emeritus of Germanic Studies and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. He has thought about and documented the relationship between aesthetics, memory and the past, and was a founding member of New German Criticism in 1974.
