abstract

“Design, intérieurs, identités” addresses the relationship, in Europe, to the home, to furnishings, to the domestic interior, to furniture, to decoration, to function, and therefore, in a more profound way, to the identities integrated, developed or detached in relation to spaces and places. From Louis XIV to the contemporary era, via the Victorian period, the line proposes a set of studies mainly articulated around the modern period. How, according to periods, styles and needs, can interior design, by setting the scene for our society, be a witness to the evolution of our lifestyles as a more or less voluntary and assertive extension of our identities? From era to era and according to our evolution, we never cease to leave a part of ourselves and our intentions in our interiors, which, ironically, speak about us and for us. Even more with the Covid-19 pandemic, which has forced us to rethink and imagine new ways of living during the almost generalised confinements imposed by states on all continents since 2019. Where everyone was invited to stay at home, relationships to interiors, our interiors, have changed. Various European researchers gathered in this line have contributed, initially for the publication of RADDAR n°2 in 2020, and have reflected on the question of interior design and the stakes, even the paradoxes that this field can encompass.
